As Promised, New Etsy Items!

Six down and ten more to go this weekend! As I promised on Wednesday, I posted 6 new items on Max & Chloe. Skirts, blouses, dresses, shoes and handbags, oh my! Amazing finds that I have been very excited to list. Some I have been contemplating on keeping, but i have too much already so i had to let them go. I'm sure you can understand the heartache that comes with parting with such adorable pieces. I guess thats why I started this little business, to share the finds with other girls who will cherish each piece as much as I do.

Keep checking back because I will be posting some exciting new outfit posts from this weekend and my new fall wishlist from some really really great designers! Happy Weekend!!

My New Dress and New Etsy Listings

A week ago I went to shop for a dress for a wedding. I went next door to this cute little Antique Store. Not only did I find that perfect dress for the wedding, I found this little number. At first I tried to talk myself out of buying yet another day dress but I just couldn't take it off it fit so perfectly. This is now my go to dress, I love it so much!! I feel like it would be a day dress worn by Betty Draper. At least that's what inspired to buy it. What do you think?

Crazy about hats!

I have always bought hats in the past but never really appreciated the beauty in them. Don't get me wrong, I think they are wonderful but I had never really worn them. This summer I did a trade with Katie (one half of 'The Mirror Mirror') a jacket for a hat. And let me just tell you, once the hat laid upon my head, it was love. So ever since that day I have been collecting them. Every time I go to the thrift store or to an estate sale I now look for Hats. Really special ones. Not for the store but for myself. I now know that wearing a spectacular hat really is the beginning of a great outfit.

So here are some pics of some recent hats that have crossed my path! I just wanna say a big big thank you to Miss Emmi,  for the beautiful hats from her grandmother. I love them so much and I'm going to wear the white one with the netting to a wedding (I think).

Does True Love Exist?

Tonight was my movie date with Esquire. The choice was 'Paper Heart'.

The movie Charlene Yi wrote and directed about her search for the meaning of love. Or rather, trying to find out if she is capable of feeling love. Now, to be honest I really wanted to see it for the bashfully cute Michael Cera. But the movie actually turned out to be really adorable.

It did raise the question of my own thoughts of true love. Have I felt it? Do I feel it? Not sure. In my younger age I pushed love away. As soon as I would feel the butterflies and such I would shut down. Lose that person, leaving them cursing my name as I moved to the next. So now, I try and keep an open mind about it. But still feel that what others may describe as "true love", may just be a storybook they convince themselves is reality. I'm hopeful, yet doubtful.  I guess what I consider to be true love...honesty, respect, passion, comfort and friendship? I must say I still get butterflies when I see a certain someone.

No fashion inspiration in this particular film. So I'll just post my movie date outfit and promise you to post an outfit post tomorrow:)

Raining in Chicago

So tonight was supposed to be a fun outfit post. Lake front or park but Chicago had something else in mind. Rain. Pouring rain. So change of plans, it's movie night. And what better movie to watch then the 1952 classic, Singin' in the Rain! "Oh what a glorious feeling...I'm happy again!"

The dancing, the singing, the love and cute little Debbie Reynolds! The hilarious Lina Lamont, her voice alone makes me laugh out loud. Don Lockwood, played by Gene Kelly, is such a dreamy character. Cosmo Brown, the funny sidekick, has, I think some of the best dance moves ever! This movie gives a fantastic humorous depiction of Hollywood. The story takes place in the 30's and tells us the story of silent films transitioning over to "talkies".

And my personal favorite part, wardrobe. The refinement of  hair and make up. The hairpieces were simply gorgeous! Every gown and dress had beautiful beadwork, flowing chiffon and sequins. Just wonderful!

My First Post:)

I've been wanting to start a blog for awhile now, I finally sat down and just did it. So here it is. I basically love all things vintage, pretty, feminine, floral, strong, innovative and just simply creative. So why not write about those things? The beauty that inspires me, the people that inspire me.

Here's the run down on who I am. My name is Karyn. I was born in Southern Illinois in Chester, a small town of around 7000 people. Home to Popeye the Sailor Man, and Pierre Menard. A benefit of living in such a small area is the history surrounding us at all times.

My family always took an interest in the classics. My mother would always introduce us to the sitcoms of the 50's and 60's, probably why my first crush was Dick Van Dyke! Mom also loves the cinema.  Her favorites are the 40's comedy 'The Major and the Minor' starring the lovely Ginger Rogers and the 60's comedy 'Pillow Talk' starring my mother's favorite, Doris day.

Mom had the best taste in movies and music. Looking through her pictures in high school always made me jealous. Saddle shoes, petticoats and the formals, oh my! So needless to say, she raised 5 children that would become obsessed with the history of music, movies, fashion and interior design. My sister would take me to thrift shops searching for the best vintage finds. My brothers would take me to antique malls and auctions looking for the perfect pieces for their home and collections. So what came of this? A little sister and daugther who dreams of living in an era full of waist coats, pocket watches, full skirts, hair pieces and dressing up for dinner.

So now I run an online etsy store that is full of vintage loveliness. I collect everything from the 40's to the 80's. I specialize in unique pieces from the 40's and 50's and ready to wear from the 60's and 70's. I'm constantly collecting and looking for more. My favorite thing in the world is getting up early, getting my large latte and going to an estate sale. If only I could do it everday!
